Industry Practicum Projects: What is it?
The industry practicum project involves collaboration with various companies in the Research Triangle Park (RTP) area. Each semester, a team of 4-5 MMB students partners with a Principal Investigator from a selected biotech company. The skills utilized for these projects primarily pertain to consultancy work, including market research, literature research, Voice of Customer (VOC) analysis, Key Opinion Leader (KOL) outreach, and go-to-market strategy development.
Fall 2022
We partnered with BASF to investigate whether seed treatments can enhance the agricultural industry by promoting soil carbon sequestration, as part of our endeavor to advance sustainable farming practices.
A collaboration with Dr. Yevgeny Brudno’s MASTER technology. An innovative technology that manufactures CAR-T cells within the patient, combining T-cells and viral vectors that introduce the CAR gene in a scaffold that is implanted. We provided consultation on which regulatory gatekeepers would be the best approach to obtain an approval from for this technology.
Spring 2023
A collaboration with Dr. Mishra to analyze the clinical landscape of Cilengitide for its potential application in treating chronic itch. Our project entailed conducting a thorough examination of existing patents and clinical trials related to Cilengitide. Subsequently, we identified potential investors within the chronic itch field or those with prior experience in utilizing Cilengitide for different purposes
Cosmic Eats, a startup funded by NASA, is developing a unique vertically integrated food supply system capable of growing and processing plants, fungi, and algae into various recognizable foods, tailored to individual nutritional needs. Our team identified and presented on 13 potential markets for their technology. We conducted in-depth market analyses using literature reviews, market research databases, and expert interviews. Our research culminated in a final presentation and executive report outlining the viability of each market, along with a detailed Go-To-Market Strategy.
Fall 2023
A collaboration with ThermoFisher to conduct in-depth research into the supply chain of facilities offering cGMP services and capabilities. This research aims to assist ThermoFisher in optimizing its supply chain by incorporating additional services and capabilities to enhance competitiveness.
